I have the honour to inform Your Lordship

that Li Hung Fui alias Li Yuk Shak alias Joseph Li was

on 22nd July, 1940, sentenced to death for the crime of

murder and that, after an unsuccessful appeal to the Full

Court, prisoner now intends to apply to the Privy Council

for special leave to appeal in forma pauperis. I have

accordingly respited the execution of sentence.

I am informed that prisoner's counsel intends

to make his application by letter and not by the usual

to that caused by the war time dislocations of the mails

and I should be glad to be advised of the result of the

application by cable so as to avoid any further
